MPs question Minister on early years commitments

The Education Committee will press the Minister for Early Education, Olivia Bailey MP, on the government’s ambition to “give every child the best possible start in life”.

MPs will hold the government to account on its plans, set out in its Best Start in Life strategy last year, to improve family services, make childcare easier and cheaper to access, and improve the quality of early years education.

The session is likely to cover a wide range of topics related to the early years, including:

  • The progress of key government policies such as Best Start Family Hubs and Early Years Pupil Premium funding
  • Targets to see 75% of children school ready by 2028
  • Challenges in recruiting and retaining early years staff
  • Safeguarding at early years settings
  • The high cost and poor availability of childcare
