What barriers face disadvantaged children in the early years? MPs explore

MPs will hold an evidence session exploring the experiences of disadvantaged children and families in the early years sector.

Meeting details

At 10:00am: Oral evidence
Inquiry Early Years: Improving Support for Children and Families
Director and Co-Founder at Family Hubs Network
CEO at Family Action
Associate Director at Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS)
Policy and Public Affairs Manager at National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Child (NSPCC)

MPs are likely to ask what difference high-quality early years support can make in improving outcomes for disadvantaged children and what difference key policies such as Best Start Family Hubs and the Early Years Pupil Premium are making for disadvantaged children.

MPs will also ask what barriers could obstruct the government’s progress towards delivering on its ambitions to give every child “the best possible start in life” and to see 75% of children attaining a ‘good level of development’ by the end of Reception year by 2028.

They may also explore the costs of childcare and whether these prevent disadvantaged families from accessing the early years support they need.
