Domestic Abuse and Anti-Slavery Commissioners questioned on impact of VAWG strategy
The Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy was published in December 2025, setting out the Government’s vision for meeting its commitment halve violence against women and girls over the next decade.
Meeting details
The Government described the aims of the strategy as prioritising prevention and tackling the root causes of VAWG, pursuing perpetrators and supporting victims and survivors. Alongside the strategy, the Government published an action plan intended to provide a “whole of society approach” based on evidence and working across Government. The strategy also outlined the planned funding for the VAWG strategy over its ten-year lifecycle, however it is unclear how much funding has increased overall.
Initial responses to the strategy raised concerns about funding for victim and survivor services, a lack of clear support for ‘by and for’ services and a lack of focus on support for children.
The Home Affairs Committee will question the Domestic Abuse Commissioner and the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner about the impact the strategy has had in its early stages. It will examine if Government leadership on VAWG has been improved and whether the promised cross-government working has been realised. The session will also explore if the funding settlement for delivering the strategy has led to an increase in support for service delivery and wider support. Further questions will focus on issues include the impact of the prison early release scheme on victims and survivors, and the impact of measures intended to reduce online harms.
