Shabana Mahmood questioned on work of the Home Office

The Home Affairs Committee will question the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood MP, on Tuesday 15 September in a session focussing on the work of the Home Office. The wide-ranging session will examine key issues within the remit of the department.

The session will examine what the Government’s plans for police reform, including to reduce the number of forces and set up of a National Police Service. It will also look at wider policing issues including neighbourhood policing and leadership.

The committee will question the minister on immigration and planned reforms in areas including earned settlement, family migration and work-based immigration. Questioning will also focus on what progress the Government has made in tackling Channel crossings and reforms to the asylum process. The Committee has just returned from Denmark, where it was looking at the Danish asylum system, and will question the Home Secretary about her plans to implement reforms based on those implemented in Denmark.
