Can the Government end the cycle of infrastructure projects being delayed and over budget?

On Tuesday morning, the Treasury Committee will question senior officials at the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA), including Chief Executive Officer, Becky Wood.

Established in April 2025, NISTA is a joint unit of HM Treasury and the Cabinet Office which was created by merging two existing bodies: the National Infrastructure Commission and the Infrastructure and Projects Authority.

Its role is to ensure the government’s strategies for infrastructure stimulate growth and opportunity across the United Kingdom.

In this session, MPs are likely to ask the witnesses how NISTA is positively impacting major infrastructure projects, particularly the extent to which its work can contribute to improving delivery and preventing cost over-runs.

Given the UK’s historic struggles to deliver major projects on time and on budget, the Committee may also ask about the impact of global uncertainty and domestic pressures on keeping the building of infrastructure on track.
