Minister Louise Sandher-Jones to give evidence on Defence in the High North
Louise Sandher-Jones MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for the Armed Forces) will give evidence to the Defence Committee as part of its inquiry into Defence in the High North.
The session will cover the UK’s priorities and capabilities in the High North region, the UK’s leadership and work with allies in the region and the role of the extended nuclear deterrent.

Members are likely to ask about pressures on all NATO members to “step up” and increase the number of aircraft, drones and ships available in Europe, and the impact that this may have on the UK’s armed forces in the High North. The session will cover the UK’s capabilities in the High North, including anti-submarine frigates.
The UK’s work with allies in the High North region is likely to covered, including the role of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) and the potential for Canadian membership of the JEF. Members may discuss the potential for defence specialisation and pooling, in coordination with allies, in the context of High North defence.
