What is the evidence for the impact of digital devices on brain development?
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee holds the first session of its new inquiry into neuroscience and digital childhoods.
Although there is extensive data on children and adolescents’ use of devices and online habits, their impact on development is less understood. This inquiry will examine the impact of digital devices on the developing brain, considering whether the available evidence base is sufficient to understand this and make well-founded policy decisions.
Meeting details
The cross-party committee will hear from experts and academics on the current state of the scientific evidence for how digital devices and environments impact cognitive, social and emotional development, and where gaps may exist in the evidence base.
Questions may explore how development impacts differ depending on socioeconomic backgrounds and how these devices are used, and how policymakers should best make use of the evidence.
