Student loans: Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Education Minister to face questions
The Treasury Committee will question ministers at the Treasury and Department for Education (DfE) on student loans. This will be the second and final session of the Committee’s student loans and taxation of graduates inquiry.
Meeting details
Jacqui Smith, whose full title is Rt Hon Baroness Smith of Malvern, will give evidence as the DfE Minister responsible for higher education. She will be joined by the newly-appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Lucy Rigby KC MP.
The Ministers may be asked for their reaction to the findings of the Committee’s survey, which received more than 52,000 responses.
Interest accrued on student debt, freezing of repayment thresholds and whether prospective students were given adequate information to understand the terms of their loans are all likely to be covered.
On Tuesday 2 June, the Committee heard the views of experts and student advocate groups on the student loans system.
Members of the Education Select Committee are also expected to attend the session.
