OBR officials and international experts give evidence as inquiry continues
The Treasury Committee will hold the third session of its inquiry into the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR).
Meeting details
The session will be split into two panels. First, two individuals with experience leading fiscal institutions similar to the OBR in other countries will appear virtually. Laura Van Geest and Prof Doug Elmendorf are likely to be questioned on what can be learned from the Dutch and American fiscal institutions and frameworks.
This will be followed by a second panel made up of current members of the OBR’s Budget Responsibility Committee, Tom Josephs and Prof David Miles. MPs will be seeking to understand how those with the most intimate knowledge of the organisation’s inner workings see the performance of the OBR, and whether they think that any improvements could be made to the OBR’s analysis, methodologies and communications.
This is the third session of the Treasury Committee’s inquiry into the OBR. In previous hearings, MPs heard from both of the watchdog’s former chairs and expert voices.
