Have low emissions zones been successful? MPs explore role of councils in tackling air pollution
On Wednesday 20 May, the Environmental Audit Committee continues its inquiry into Air Pollution in England with an evidence session exploring how local authorities are tackling air pollution.
In the first panel, MPs will hear from experts on the science and modelling behind air quality monitoring. They will consider how this monitoring fits within England’s planning rules and whether the planning system is able to improve air quality.
In the second panel, MPs will consider how local authorities tackle air quality, including the successes and limitations of initiatives such as low emissions zones or school streets. They will also explore whether local authorities have the finances or engagement with central government they need to deal with air pollution.
