Minister to be quizzed on UK’s partnership with Nigeria
The International Development Minister will be among the witnesses as the International Development Committee continues to explore the UK’s development partnership with Nigeria.
Baroness Chapman will be questioned on evidence taken throughout the inquiry as the final session takes place on Tuesday.
With a population of approximately 238 million, Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and biggest single economy.
The Minister could face questions about why the UK signed the Nigeria-UK Strategic Partnership in 2024 and what success will look like for the partnership.
The session comes as essential US-funded programmes in Nigeria have been cut or suspended, and insecurity owing to armed groups and communal violence is compounding pressures on overstretched institutions.

Against this backdrop, MPs could also explore whether humanitarian and security issues across Nigeria risk undermining progress made on economic reform.
Before the Minister’s appearance, the session will feature witnesses from British International Investment and Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
This panel will give Members the opportunity to assess how strategic BII is in its investment decisions in Nigeria, and to get an insight into the priorities and wants of state governors in Nigeria
