MPs to explore Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives
The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) will hear from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Policy Exchange and EDI experts during an evidence session exploring equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives.
Meeting details
MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP Sarah Owen, will examine the effectiveness of a range of initiatives and proposed additions to the EDI framework, including race and disability pay gap reporting and enactment of the Equality Act’s “socioeconomic duty”.
Discussion is also likely to focus on the role of government in assessing what works in EDI practice, including the recommendations of the previous government's Inclusion at Work panel, as well as considering the response of EDI to demographic change and approaches to social mobility.
This is a continuation of the Committee’s first evidence session on March 25 which was curtailed by votes in the Commons. That session explored the drivers of pushback against EDI, the rollback of DEI in the United States and differences between DEI in the US and EDI in the UK.
