The Home Affairs Committee will question the Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls, Jess Phillips MP, on Tuesday 28 April in a session focusing on the Government’s VAWG strategy.
Meeting details
The session will also examine what progress has been made in setting up an Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs. The Committee has today published correspondence from the Home Secretary relating to the establishment of the Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs.
The Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy was published by the Government in December last year. It sets out the Government’s overarching strategy for delivering its ambition to halve violence against women and girls over the next decade. The Government has described the strategy as prioritising prevention and tackling the root causes of VAWG, as well as pursuing perpetrators and supporting victims and survivors.
The session will explore how the strategy will be delivered and what oversight from Government will ensure that it can meet its aims over the long term. It will examine how stakeholders will be included in the implementation of the strategy and whether adequate funding will be in place to support the specialist services needed to tackle VAWG. It will also consider if the strategy has an effective approach to issues including online facilitated VAWG.
The Committee published a report into funding for VAWG services in October 2025.
