Housing Minister questioned on Draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill
On Tuesday, the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee concludes the public evidence sessions for its inquiry scrutinising the Government’s draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill with questions to Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook.
The cross-party Committee will press the Minister on the range of proposed measures included in the draft Bill, including questions on how it will strengthen leaseholders’ rights in line with the Government’s policy objectives. MPs will examine the Government’s policy on ground rents and on the regulation of management agents.
Meeting details
MPs will explore with the Minister potential improvements to ensure commonhold associations work effectively, and any changes that may be needed to ensure shared owners can embrace commonhold. Banning the sale of new leasehold flats and making commonhold the default tenure will also be among the topics covered on Tuesday.
The Committee will also examine the Government’s expected timetable for introducing the legislation and on the implementation of the remaining provisions of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024.
