OBR inquiry sessions open with questions to former Chairs Richard Hughes and Sir Robert Chote
Former Chairs of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), Richard Hughes and Sir Robert Chote, will give evidence to MPs in the first session of the Treasury Committee’s review of the OBR.
Meeting details
Sir Robert ran the OBR from October 2010 until October 2020, with Mr Hughes taking over until December 2025. The position of Chair is currently vacant.
The Committee's inquiry will look at the OBR’s historic performance, including the accuracy of its forecasting.
MPs are also considering how it works with HM Treasury and whether any potential reforms of the watchdog would ensure that it helps to deliver positive economic outcomes for the UK.
Questions in this session are likely to focus around the previous Chairs’ experiences and how they feel the organisation could be improved.
