Committee questions Minister on how regulators should support growth
The Industry and Regulators Committee will hear from Blair McDougall MP, Minister for Small Business and Economic Transformation, as part of its inquiry into regulators and growth. The Committee will question how the Government’s current push for regulators to support investment, innovation and economic growth differs from previous attempts to improve regulation. The Committee will also consider whether the Government has been clear enough with regulators on what supporting economic growth means for them, and what trade-offs this might involve with their other responsibilities, such as consumer, safety and environmental protections. The Committee will discuss whether the Government should encourage regulators to be less risk-averse and provide political cover for them to allow greater risk.
