The purpose of the session is to hear the views of senior officials at public sector bodies on the current standards system in the UK, including the role of the new Ethics and Integrity Commission (EIC).

The session will be split into two panels. First, MPs will hear from the Chair of the Electoral Commission, John Pullinger, and Head of the Office for Statistics Regulation, Ed Humpherson. MPs are likely to explore the challenges of maintaining trust in a democratic system, including the role that statistics play.

This will then be followed by a second panel of witnesses with a focus on Parliament and public services. During this part of the hearing, the Committee will question the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, Paula Sussex, and Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Daniel Greenberg. MPs might ask about how these offices balance their role in investigating possible individual and organisational wrongdoing with their aim to enhance the performance of politicians and to improve the way public services are provided respectively.
