Does the UK have what it needs to operate in the High North?

The Defence Committee kicks of its inquiry into Defence in the High North with an evidence session hearing from expert witnesses. 

The session will delve into the evolving threats in the Arctic and High North and ask whether the UK has what it needs to operate – and potentially lead a coalition of forces – in the region.

Questions are likely to cover advances in Russian and Chinese capabilities and military technology in the High North. Members are likely to discuss the UK’s leadership of the Joint Expeditionary Force and the scope for cooperation with Canada and Norway on defence, as well as the Atlantic Bastion, Atlantic Shield and Atlantic Strike initiatives.  

The recent increase in tensions over US policy towards Greenland is likely to be covered in the session.
