Committee questions independent reviewers on how regulators support economic growth
The Industry and Regulators Committee will continue its inquiry into the relationship between regulators and economic growth by hearing from witnesses who have conducted independent reviews of environmental and nuclear regulation. The Committee will consider the findings of these independent reviews and the extent to which the Government and regulators have acted on them. The Committee will discuss whether and how regulators can be less risk-averse, and whether this will require a change in their culture or resourcing. The Committee will also question whether legislative changes or clearer statements from politicians are needed in order for regulators to take a more flexible, open approach.
