Sir Laurie Magnus and Baroness Stuart to face questions on standards in politics

The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) will be holding a two-part session on standards with two of the leading figures responsible for upholding propriety and ethics in politics.

Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards

The first half will see MPs question Baroness Gisela Stuart, who currently leads the Civil Service Commission, on her view of the current rules which govern standards within the Civil Service. This is likely to include the Commission’s new role in administering the Business Appointment Rules for all crown servants following the Government’s decision to abolish the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA).

This will then be followed by separate questioning of the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards, Sir Laurie Magnus. Members of the Committee are likely to quiz Sir Laurie on how the actions of ministers are policed, recent changes to his role including administering and enforcing the Business Appointment Rules for former ministers.
