How can agri-tech innovation support future food security?
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will continue its inquiry exploring how innovation can support global food security by hearing from academics and experts on agri-tech innovation, and the adoption of this technology by farmers.
In the first panel, the cross-party committee will question Professor Paul Behrens and Dr Belinda Clarke on sustainable food systems and the UK’s agri-tech innovation ecosystem. MPs could ask about the role of innovation in future global food security, the UK’s agricultural research and innovation landscape, and the use of AI and data-driven technologies in agriculture.
Meeting details
Ethical concerns about the growing use of technology within food production, as well as the threats that climate change poses to food security, may also be discussed.
In the second panel, MPs will hear from Tom Allen-Stevens and Peter Setimela on the adoption of agri-tech innovation by small and medium sized farms in the UK and Zambia. Members may explore barriers to technology adoption by farmers in both countries, incentives for farmers to adopt innovative technologies, and support for the uptake or scale-up of new technologies.
