How can the UK remain a world leader in quantum technologies?
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hold the next session of its inquiry into Science Diplomacy, focused on the UK’s position in quantum technologies.
Innovations in quantum technologies can go beyond the capabilities of conventional computers, enhance cybersecurity or enable less invasive medical technologies.
The UK is a leading research nation in quantum technologies, with one of the largest numbers of quantum technology companies. However, there are concerns about the UK's ability to commercialise these technologies, with companies moving abroad to scale up and pursue funding.
Meeting details
In the first panel, the cross-party committee will ask experts for their views on the UK’s position in quantum technologies, including its research capabilities, late-stage funding for quantum companies, and how the UK can develop the skills needed as this technology develops.
In the second panel, MPs will hear from representatives of the UK’s quantum industry on the country’s long-term ambitions for the technology, its sovereign capabilities and partnerships with other countries.
