WEC to assess the state of youth services and community sport
The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) will hear from senior representatives of youth services and sports organisations during the fifth evidence session of its inquiry into community cohesion on Wednesday, 14 January.
Meeting details
MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP Sarah Owen, will examine the role of young people in community cohesion, the type of services and programmes that are effective, the impact of a decline in funding for youth services and the Government's new Youth Strategy.
The second panel will assess the role of sport in community cohesion, funding for sports programmes and the availability of suitable facilities. It will also look at participation, including from marginalised groups and how sport can be used to combat prejudice.
WEC’s community cohesion inquiry examines the state of community cohesion nationwide and how barriers to it can be best addressed. It assesses what actions the Government should take to improve and sustain community cohesion across the country, including examples of best practice and how to ensure cohesion for the next generation.
