MPs to question Minister on Black homelessness and scrutinise new Government homelessness and rough sleeping strategy
The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) will question the Minister for Local Government and Homelessness Alison McGovern during the second evidence session of its inquiry into Black homelessness on Wednesday, 7 January.
Meeting details
MPs on the cross-party committee, chaired by Labour MP Sarah Owen, will examine the key drivers for Black homelessness and what the Government should do to address it. The Committee will scrutinise the National Plan to End Homelessness published in December and hear from those with lived and on the ground experience.
This session will explore discrimination, geographic and demographic variations to homelessness risks and the role of public services, the charity sector, and Government in tackling Black homelessness. In November, WEC heard from campaigning charities including Crisis and Shelter, as well as an academic from Heriot-Watt University who has undertaken research into this area.
The Committee invites written submissions through the inquiry webpage addressing any or all of the issues raised in the terms of reference by 12 January.
