MPs to quiz Ian Murray on plans for government’s digital transformation
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will question Ian Murray, the Minister for Digital Government and Data, in the final session of its inquiry into the Digital Centre of Government.
The cross-party Committee could ask the Minister about Digital ID, including the recently announced cross-government division of responsibility for its development and technical delivery, and the timeline for publication of the government’s promised Digital and AI Roadmap.
Meeting details
MPs may investigate the new Government Digital Service’s (GDS) priorities for procurement, plans to prevent vendor lock-in and how it is supporting the use of technology to transform public services.
There could also be questions about how the new GDS will strengthen the UK's national technical resilience and the the government’s response to the recent Amazon Web Services outage.
The Government’s estimate that the full digitisation of public sector services could deliver £45 billion annual savings, which the committee requested a full breakdown of during this inquiry, may also be explored.
