William Shawcross to be questioned on Public Appointments
The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) will examine the work of the Commissioner for Public Appointments, Sir William Shawcross.
Meeting details
The Commissioner regulates the processes by which ministers make appointments to the boards of public bodies such as the BBC and the Environment Agency.
As he nears the end of his 5-year term, MPs are likely to ask for his assessment of the public appointment’s process, which may include questions on the diversity of candidates and the length of time taken to make appointments.
MPs may also ask about the appointment process for the Independent Football Regulator, David Kogan, after the Commissioner found three breaches of the Governance code including the failure of the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to disclose Mr Kogan’s donations to her 2020 leadership campaign when selecting him as the Government’s preferred candidate.
The Committee will likely also question Sir William, on his views on the wider standards landscape and the establishment of the new Ethics and Integrity commission.
