Committee launches new inquiry on AI and copyright
The Communications and Digital Committee takes evidence from rightsholder organisations in the first evidence session of its inquiry on artificial intelligence (AI) and copyright.
Meeting details
Background
This inquiry builds on the Committee’s previous work on AI and copyright as part of recent reports into UK scaleups, large language models and the creative industries.
It will explore the practical steps that would enable creative rightsholders to reserve and enforce their rights in relation to AI systems; what levels of transparency and accountability can be expected from AI developers; and how licensing, attribution and labelling tools might support a viable marketplace for creative content in the UK.
Possible areas for discussion
Possible areas for discussion with witnesses include:
- The challenges that generative AI poses for rightsholders in different sectors;
- Rightsholders’ expectations in relation to transparency from AI developers; and
- Potential opportunities for the UK to develop a licensing market for use of creative works in relation to AI.
