Is UK aid delivering for the world’s poorest? MPs quiz development watchdog
On Tuesday, the cross-party International Development Committee will hear evidence on the current state of UK aid from the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) the UK’s development spending watchdog.
MPs are likely to ask ICAI’s Chief Commissioner Jillian Popkins how the Government can maximise the impact and value for money of UK aid at the same time as it makes sharp cuts to development funding, known as Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Meeting details
ICAI scrutinises UK aid spending through reviews, some of which can take up to 12 months, while others take place more quickly to respond to emerging issues.
MPs are likely to ask what ICAI’s reviews have revealed about how well the Government is delivering on its stated aims for development, and where it has succeeded or failed.
