How can the UK ensure that COP30 delivers change?
As COP30 rapidly approaches, the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a one-off evidence session on the UK’s foreign policy response to the climate crisis, asking how the Government can respond to climate-driven threats.
In this session, Members will hear from experts, including a leading climate scientist and foreign policy experts specialising in climate diplomacy.
Members are likely to ask for the witnesses’ assessment of the degree of global engagement on climate issues, including the disengagement of the US from climate issues and the fact that 60 countries are yet to submit their Nationally Determined Contributions for this year.

The session will explore the UK’s engagement in climate issues. The impact of the Government’s cut to Official Development Assistance on the UK’s ability to meet its climate goals is likely to be covered. Questions are also likely to examine how the UK can balance climate with other pressures, such as economic and national security constraints.
