Will the new Ethics and Integrity Commission keep ministers accountable? MPs investigate
The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) will hold the first evidence session of its inquiry into propriety and ethics within government and the political system more widely.
Meeting details
The inquiry sets out to examine how effective existing structures are in making sure ministers and officials uphold and adhere to standards, following concerns around lobbying and the behaviour of ministers.
MPs will hear from Lord Evans of Weardale, former Chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, and Sir Peter Riddell, former Commissioner for Public Appointments. The Committee will question witnesses on their perspective on the current standards system, particularly on the role of the newly established Ethics and Integrity Commission.
MPs will explore if the new body can help restore confidence and trust in government and ask about the recently abolished Advisory Committee on Business Appointments.
