How can the public sector improve its procurement of technology?  

The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hear from a range of experts and researchers in the next session of its inquiry into the Digital Centre of Government. 

In the first panel, MPs will question the Institute for Government and Crown Hosting Data Centres about how the public sector procures technology, and what needs to change to successfully deliver the government’s plans to transform public services.

Questions may be asked about the current condition of public sector IT infrastructure, the 2023 Procurement Act and how to prevent vendor lock-in.  

In the second panel, the cross-party committee will hear from the Ada Lovelace Institute and Connected by Data to examine civil society’s views on the use of technology to deliver public services. 

MPs could explore the use of AI in the public sector, public perceptions of plans to digitise public services and the establishment of the new Government Digital Service.
