New Ofsted Chair and Chief Inspector questioned by Education Committee
The Education Committee will question the leadership of the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) on the rollout of its new inspection framework and grading system for schools.
Meeting details
It will be the first Committee appearance of Ofsted’s new Chair, Dame Christine Gilbert, who is also a former His Majesty’s Chief Inspector (HMCI). She will take questions from MPs alongside the current HMCI of Ofsted, Sir Martyn Oliver.
As Ofsted prepares to roll out its new inspection framework and grading system for education settings from November, the cross-party Committee will ask the new Chair how she will ensure robust scrutiny of how these changes are implemented.
There may be questions about how inspections will be carried out with sufficient depth, how Ofsted is addressing concerns regarding its complaints processes, and the way that safeguarding is assessed.
MPs will also question Sir Martyn and Dame Christine on Ofsted’s work in children’s social care, early years settings, and how their inspections will promote inclusive provision of SEND throughout the education system and inspectors’ engagement with parents.
