Is the UK’s Industrial Strategy considering Scotland’s strengths? 

The Scottish Affairs Committee will hold the next session of its inquiry into Scotland’s Industrial Transition, focusing on the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy.  

In the first panel, the cross-party committee will hear from Prosper, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, and the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC). Questions could be asked about how the Industrial Strategy supports Scotland’s future economic growth, the strategy’s identification of eight high-potential sectors and the government’s place-based approach in the strategy.

MPs may also ask about how well the Industrial Strategy Advisory Council (ISAC) considers Scotland in its work and their overall views on the effectiveness of the industrial strategy for Scotland.  

In the second panel, the committee will question Dame Nancy Rothwell DBE, Deputy Chair of ISAC, and Leonie Lambert, Director of the Industrial Strategy Council. Questions may focus on ISAC’s about its role and its engagement with Scotland and Scottish stakeholders, as well as whether Scotland will benefit meaningfully from the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy.
