Sir Ian Diamond faces questions on the challenges facing the Office for National Statistics and the UK Statistics Authority
On Tuesday morning, MPs will question former National Statistician Sir Ian Diamond as part of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee’s inquiry into the work of the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA).
The session is an opportunity to hear from the former National Statistician on what drove recent issues with the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) UK economic data. Evidence from previous evidence sessions suggested that deep-rooted issues of governance, culture and delivery at the UK's statistical body had driven recent data errors.
Meeting details
The cross-party group of MPs will likely ask questions about the ONS’s culture, following concerns raised by Sir Robert Devereux’s review. MPs are also likely to ask about how effectively the UKSA and the ONS are working together with the Treasury and the Cabinet Office.
Other topics the Committee may examine include the Integrated Data Service, the role of the National Statistician, and the management of devolved statistics.
