How is Glasgow getting ready for the 2026 Commonwealth Games?
The Scottish Affairs Committee will hold a one-off evidence session, broadcast from Glasgow, to explore the preparations for next year’s Commonwealth Games, which the city is due to host between 23 July and 2 August 2026.
In the first panel, the cross-party committee will hear from representatives of Commonwealth Games Scotland and Glasgow 2026 Limited, the company established to organise and deliver the Games. Questions may be asked about how the 2026 Games can build on the legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the current state of preparations, including progress on securing a UK broadcaster.
MPs could also explore the organisers’ ambitions for the economic and community benefits that the 2026 Games could bring to Glasgow and Scotland.
Meeting details
In the second panel, members will hear from representatives from Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Life on how they are supporting Glasgow’s preparations for the Games, including investments in the city’s facilities and services.
They could also discuss how the Council is working to maximise the economic and reputational benefits that the Games could bring to the region, in both the short and the long term.
