The Home Affairs Committee’s recent report into asylum accommodation highlighted long-term failings in the Home Office, and the Home Secretary last month admitted the department was “not yet fit for purpose”. The evidence session will examine the Permanent Secretary’s assessment of the current state of the Home Office and how its performance can be improved.

The session will investigate the Home Office’s priorities and delivery in key policy areas, including asylum and immigration, and crime and policing. It will also examine the department’s financial management and organisational culture.
