WEC to question Health Minister on regulation around cosmetic procedures
The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) will question Health Minister Karin Smyth during the fourth and final evidence session of its inquiry into the health impacts of breast implants and other cosmetic procedures on Wednesday, 22 October.
Meeting details
The first panel will focus on the Government’s proposals to introduce a licensing scheme in England for non-surgical cosmetic procedures. MPs will hear from the British Beauty Council and the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology.
MPs will examine the full range of issues raised throughout the inquiry, including the regulation of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, the PIP implant scandal, cosmetic tourism, body image and training within the cosmetic industry.
Previous evidence sessions have focused on the rise in cosmetic procedures, including liquid BBLs (Brazilian butt lifts) and liquid boob jobs and the drivers for this, touching upon the issues of social media, advertising, education and awareness.
