What is the future of Scotland’s shipbuilding? Committee question Ferguson Marine and Society of Maritime Industries
The Scottish Affairs Committee continues its inquiry into Scotland’s Industrial Transition with a session on Civil Shipbuilding.
Meeting details
In the first panel, the cross-party committee will hear from Tom Chant MBE, Chief Executive of the Society of Maritime Industries. Questions will focus on Scotland’s position and advantages in the global maritime sector, international competitors and the financial landscape affecting Sottish shipbuilding.
MPs may also explore the importance of public procurement to civil shipbuilding and the relationship between different shipyards.
Members will then question Graeme Thomson, Chief Executive of Ferguson Marine on delays to CalMac ferries built at Ferguson’s shipyard, the impact of losing contracts to overseas competitors and the UK’s current public procurement regime.
Calls that Ferguson Marine’s shipyard needs urgent investment, and the workforce challenges it faces, could also be discussed.
