AI in Financial Services – leading academics to share their expertise
MPs will hear from leading academics specialising in artificial intelligence as part of the Treasury Committee’s inquiry into AI in financial services.

The panel will be made up of three professors. From the University of Oxford, Professor Sandra Wachter will share her expertise on technology and regulation.
Professor Neil Lawrence, who works on artificial intelligence at the University of Cambridge, and Professor Galina Andreeva from the University of Edinburgh, who specialises in the implications of using machine-learning techniques for credit applications, will complete the panel.
In this session, Members of the Committee are aiming to understand the view of experts based outside the finance sector on the potential impacts of using artificial intelligence in financial services.
MPs may choose to ask about recent research carried out by academic institutions on the risks and benefits of using different forms of AI in both the public and private sector.
Members are also likely to probe witnesses on the risk of AI reinforcing human biases as well as the extent to which financial regulators are adequately prepared and knowledgeable to protect consumers against potential AI-related harm.
