Committee ask Lord Vallance, Research England and Innovate UK: how can we deliver a better innovation ecosystem?
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hold the final session of its inquiry into innovation, growth and the regions.
In the first panel, the cross-party committee will question representatives from Research England and Innovate UK. Members could ask about how access to funding in the regions compares to that for the golden triangle, the impact of the catapult network and the regional presence of both organisations.
MPs will then quiz the Science Minister, Lord Vallance, on regional research and innovation strategies. Members could explore how innovation strategies can reflect local regional strengths, and how the government can attract top scientific talent despite the UK’s high immigration fees.
Meeting details
The committee may discuss research funding distribution, including how to ensure it delivers broader national economic benefits, and the potential for clusters to drive regional growth, as in Liverpool. Questions could also cover strategies to support defence innovation, as well as how the government can strengthen innovation through the development of regional infrastructure, like transport.
