Committee to examine the Family Hubs model of early years services
The Health and Social Care Committee holds the second evidence session of its inquiry in to the first 1000 days of life at 9.30am on Wednesday 4 June.
Meeting details
The session will examine local authority provision of early years services through the Family Hubs model, with MPs posing questions about access to services, funding and workforce capacity.
The Committee will explore how effective Family Hubs are at reaching families from different communities and harder to reach groups.
In January 2025, the Government announced £22.4m of funding for Family Hubs across the country, but there have been calls for the Government to extend funding for Family Hubs to all English local authorities in its Spending Review next week.
The Committee will ask witnesses for their reflections on whether the current funding system for Family Hubs is adequate and where additional funding should be targeted, if it were available.
The session will also consider the Family Hubs model in comparison with the Sure Start model, with Members questioning a witness from the Institute for Fiscal Studies on the recent IFS report on the impact of Sure Start centres and on how outcomes may vary between Sure Start and Family Hubs.
