Committee to quiz Ofcom on online safety, rural broadband, and cyber security
The Science, Innovation and Technology Committee will hold a one-off evidence session scrutinising the work of Ofcom.
The cross-party committee will explore Ofcom’s implementation of the Online Safety Act (OSA), its engagement with the big tech companies it regulates, and its new Online Information Advisory committee. They may also ask about whether current trade talks with the US will impact the implementation of the OSA.
Meeting details
MPs could discuss Ofcom’s work on telecommunications, including the rollout of rural broadband, competition in the telecoms market, and network resilience.
Questions may investigate Ofcom’s approach to AI regulation, possible phone bans in schools and the UK’s cyber security challenges, as well as potential changes to its funding in the upcoming Spending Review.
