Committee examines priorities for UK National Security Strategy
On Monday 23 June the Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy will consider the implications for UK security of President Trump, the crisis in the Middle East, the threat from Russia, and strategic competition with China, among other issues, as it examines the Government’s priorities for the upcoming National Security Strategy. The Government is expected to publish the Strategy in the near future.
Meeting details
Members of the Committee will invite witnesses, including Lord Ricketts, former UK National Security Adviser and Rachel Ellehuus, Director General of the Royal United Services Institute, to reflect on how the Government is proposing to handle the major trends in global security.
Members of the Committee are likely to ask how the Government assesses the near-term threat posed by Russia and the United States’ proposal to drawdown some security forces from Europe.
They are also likely to consider how the strategy will account for long-term competition with China, as well as issues around the economic and supply chain security, societal resilience and technology competition.
