Maternal health outcomes for black women are significantly worse than for white women, with an almost three-fold difference in maternal mortality rates amongst women from black ethnic backgrounds compared to white women.

The evidence session will examine the impact that pre-existing conditions, access to culturally sensitive care and a lack of appropriate pre-conception care, have on black maternal health.

MPs will take evidence from experts on how black maternal health outcomes could be improved, what the barriers to progress might be, and how they can be addressed.

The Committee will consider how interventions such as the Maternity Disparities Taskforce, the Women’s Health Strategy and the three-year delivery plan for maternity and neonatal delivery services have affected black women’s experiences.
