Are Public Bodies being held to account? New inquiry launches with first session
The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC) will hold the first public evidence session of its inquiry into Public Bodies.
The Government have committed to setting up several public bodies, like GB Energy, since the new Parliament. However, in March of this year, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced plans to reduce the number of quangos, including the abolition of NHS England.
The session will be an opportunity to learn about the current landscape of public bodies and whether the Cabinet Office's central oversight is sufficient.
Meeting details
The Committee are likely to ask whether the tests used to justify the creation of a public body are adequate. Members of the Committee may also ask questions about the Government’s review programme for public bodies, including the outcome of previous reviews.
MPs may choose to question the witness on the pay of public bodies’ staff, as well as the role of ministers in controlling Public Bodies.
