Defence Committee to hold session on Defence Space

The Defence Committee will hold an evidence session on Defence Space at 11.30 on Tuesday 6 May. In this one-off evidence session, the Committee will hear from experts and industry on the key issues in the space defence domain.

In the first panel, questions are likely to focus on the UK’s reliance on allies for access to Defence Space capabilities, including the US GPS system. The Committee may also discuss reports that Russia is developing a nuclear anti-satellite weapon. 

The second panel will focus on the UK’s Defence Space industry. Questions are likely to cover the skills challenges within the UK space sector. Lessons from Ukraine, including the advantages and disadvantages of Government collaboration with commercial space companies, are likely to be discussed.  

Committee Members may also explore the potential benefits of sovereign launch capabilities.
