FCA to appear in front of MPs amid pressure on regulators
Nikhil Rathi and Ashley Alder, the Chief Executive and Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority, will give evidence to the Treasury Committee next Tuesday morning.
Meeting details
The appearance of senior officials from the FCA comes at a time of increased attention and pressure on the regulator to drive growth. This session is part of the Committee’s regular scrutiny of their work and therefore will cover a wide range of issues.
The recent decision to fold the Payment Systems Regulator into the FCA is likely to come up, and the witnesses’ view on the broader narrative on growth vs regulation may be sought.
Other broad themes which may arise include consumer protections and striking the balance between encouraging greater risk taking with potentially higher volumes of failure or harm.
