How can the seabed be developed sensitively to nature and coastal communities? EAC hears from experts
Turning attention to the industries of the marine economy, the Environmental Audit Committee will be holding its penultimate evidence session of its Governing the marine environment inquiry.
Meeting details
The consenting process for offshore wind, sustainable fisheries and making sure coastal communities and livelihoods remain intact will be discussed with experts on the first panel. Representatives exploring these issues with the Committee will be from Ørsted, the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations and Rewilding Britain. A key issue being raised will be the involvement of local communities in discussions over the development of the seabed in their areas.
Dredging and nature recovery will then be considered on the second panel, where the British Marine Aggregate Producers Association, UNESCO North Devon Biosphere and the British Ports Association will give evidence. Among the issues the Committee will be seeking views on will be how collaboration between conservation groups, government authorities and the industry can contribute to more sustainable practices in port operations and the marine aggregates industry.
