What will local government reorganisation mean for democracy in England? Devolution Minister, Jim McMahon, questioned by Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee

On Tuesday morning, the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee will question Jim McMahon, Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution, on the Government’s plans for the reorganisation of local government in England.

The cross-party group of MPs will ask questions on the English Devolution White Paper and are likely to focus on topics including the postponement of council elections, mayoral and county council accountability, and fiscal devolution.

MPs are also likely to ask questions on the proposed role of Strategic Authorities in the Government’s growth agenda and the move to unitary and ‘mega-councils’.
