James Bowler to be questioned by MPs at Darlington Economic Campus
The Treasury Committee will hold an evidence session at Darlington’s Economic campus for the first time on Wednesday 12 February, when they will examine the work of HM Treasury.
Meeting details
In 2020, the then-Chancellor, Rt Hon Rishi Sunak, pledged to establish "a new economic campus in the North” during his first Budget speech. The following year, it was announced that this campus would be in Darlington. The Committee will hold a session on the work of the Treasury on the campus, with MPs likely to question officials on the Spending Review.
A report published in 2024 found that the campus has benefitted local businesses, built positive relationships with local universities and enabled HM Treasury to attract a more diverse range of candidates. The Committee may ask what opportunities and challenges this move presented, as well as considering wider recruitment issues faced by the department.
The Committee may also use the session to explore the Treasury’s role in the Government’s mission for growth, its approach to working with regulators and the challenges likely to be faced by major infrastructure projects.
